The Buttercross is a historic monument located in Whittlesey. It is a Grade I listed building and stands at the heart of the town, on the Market Place.
The structure was built in the 17th century and served as a market cross, where butter and other dairy products were sold. The Buttercross is made of limestone and has a polygonal shape with an open arcade of eight arches, supported by Tuscan columns.
The upper floor of the Buttercross was used as a court and meeting place for the town council. The Buttercross is considered to be one of the finest examples of a market cross in the country and is an important landmark in Whittlesey's history and heritage.
